At Zuora, our purpose is to help people subscribe to modern ways of doing business – ways that are better for people, companies and the planet. Subscribing to this philosophy encourages new mindsets that put people first (instead of products) and focus on sustainable growth.

Igniting an entrepreneurial mindset

Putting people first applies to our employees (we call them ZEOs), customers, and the broader community. One of the ways we put people first is by partnering with the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) to ignite an entrepreneurial mindset and build a more equitable future for the youth of underserved communities. NFTE is an international nonprofit organization providing entrepreneurship training and education programs.

Through our partnership, ZEOs have volunteered over 690 hours over two years helping NFTE students activate their entrepreneurial thinking through a variety of activities, including college/career mentoring, innovation field trips where students learned about how modern businesses are subscribing to recurring revenue models, and volunteers partnered with students to craft business ideas and hone their pitches.

A student participant shared the value of the innovation field trips by explaining: “Volunteers knew what they were doing and provided great feedback on pitches. They pointed out different aspects of the product we hadn’t even thought of and assisted us on how to deliver it as well. I was able to learn how to produce a good pitch that was quick but still informative.”

Tackling sustainability through innovation

Zuora also participates in NFTE’s World Series of Innovation, which invites young people to solve some of the biggest challenges facing humanity by advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals and, more specifically, fighting climate change and preserving the planet through subscription-based innovations. In 2022, 40 ZEOs evaluated nearly 100 submissions, ultimately selecting three finalists whose innovative ideas showcased how recurring revenue models can support a more sustainable world.

ZEOs have also served as local, regional, national, and international judges for pitch competitions where students presented their business ideas.

The importance of an entrepreneurial mindset

In today’s innovation economy, where needs and opportunities are evolving faster and more fluidly than ever before, our youth need a mindset that equips them to recognize opportunity, take initiative, and innovate in the face of challenges. In two years, Zuora’s support of NFTE has helped impact the lives of almost 58,000 youth annually, including about 700 students, through the support of volunteers who have served over 690 hours, and we’re just getting started.

Ostendio helps La Clinica Del Pueblo meet security and compliance needs

In-kind platform donation helps busy community healthcare organization fill a funding gap

La Clínica del Pueblo (https://www.lcdp.org/) is a community-based health center committed to delivering the highest quality, culturally appropriate, and patient-centered health services. La Clínica is a non-profit organization and Federally Qualified Health Center founded in 1983 to meet the emergent health needs of the Latinx immigrant community in the DC, VA, and MD area.

“Grants our organization receives don’t typically fund the administrative costs associated with my role.” – Divya Moolchandani, Compliance Officer at LCDP.

Divya Moolchandani, Compliance Officer at LCDP, explained that grants their organization receives don’t typically fund the administrative costs associated with their role, so LCDP relies on community partners like Ostendio for assistance. Ostendio offers the platform to registered charities either free or at a reduced cost as part of its Pledge 1% commitment to give back to the community.

The Challenge

Just like any for-profit clinic, La Clinica Del Pueblo needs to work in line with several healthcare frameworks including HIPAA. However, as a non-profit, their funding would not typically allow them to afford a complex compliance and risk management tool such as Ostendio. Moolchandani explains, “When we understood the Ostendio mission it was a gift that fell in our laps. We have seen our workforce change. Ostendio has freed up their time to give back to the patients because Ostendio has made our processes more efficient.”

LCDP needed to move away from spreadsheets and internal document sharing to a more robust method of security and compliance management.

The Solution

LCDP is using the Ostendio platform to meet HIPAA guidelines that apply to all healthcare organizations and LCDP also uses the risk management and compliance features. Moolchandani explains that LCDP most frequently uses the risk module, audit module, and ticketing feature.

Features most used:

Ticketing – report and track incidents and process improvements within the organization
Audit – used for internal audits and automates workflows
Assets – – used to keep track of documents such as contracts, certificates, and agreements
Security Risk Assessment – used for internal assessments as well as HIPAA compliance
Training – cybersecurity training, HIPAA compliance training, patient safety, and risk management compliance.

As with many smaller organizations, Moolchandani said that before using Ostendio, LCDP managed their processes internally with spreadsheets and document sharing. By moving to the Ostendio platform they have now formalized those processes and become more efficient in their data security and compliance.

The best feature of the platform for Moolchandani is the assets module which allows LCDP to manage and track user access to assets and set data policies within assets, set and track asset risk and manage remediation, and track change requests and schedule data access audits.

“I appreciate using the assets model to track our contracts. For us, many contracts outline the relationships we have with providers. We use the Ostendio platform to upload our contracts and assign them to a relationship manager within the organization. We can send some of our patients to certain hospitals without charge. Using the Ostendio platform we can track that information. This has helped us with our overall mission by helping us gather valuable data that we can then take to other hospitals and explain how they could also be involved with helping our clients,” said Moolchandani. This is essential work as two-thirds of LCDP patients are underinsured or uninsured.

The results

When choosing to work with Ostendio, Moolchandani explains that it was all about finding the right partnership. She adds that of course procurement, cost, and quality of service are important but the partnership was key. “We don’t want to be treated as a charity just because we are one,” Moolchandani explained. “We are looking for a partnership. We are a pro bono client for Ostendio but we have never felt like we are treated as one. I’m an Ostendio super-fan.”

Moolchandani added that the benefits of using the platform directly impact the patients that they care for at LCDP, “It is a game changer for us at LCDP. We are beyond grateful. If we were using spreadsheets I would need to employ six full-time employees instead of your platform. The cost savings of that goes directly back to helping our patients.”

As a compliance officer, Moolchandani says she loves the forced audit trail that is provided by Ostendio. “If I am to make a change I have to say why. I know at the back end I can print a report about why I made a change and this is essential when you are working with auditors.”

Working with the experts at Ostendio in the customer success team was also a bonus for LCDP. Moolchandani says “The platform is generally intuitive” but if she needs help there is information easily available that experience is different from other platforms she has used. She also emphasized that “the customer success team feels like I have an expert partner and that is what I needed in terms of service from a vendor.” Working for a non-profit, Moolchandani could also resonate with the Ostendio values, adding, “You can tell they have a set of core values and they identify with the values of your company and that comes across.”

Corporate Social Responsibility at Ostendio

Ostendio is proud to be a Pledge 1% member and in addition to direct donations, we provide the Ostendio platform for free or at a reduced price to qualifying non-profits and give our employees paid time off to volunteer. Pledge 1% is a global movement that encourages and empowers companies of all sizes and stages to donate 1% of their staff time, product, profit, and/or equity to any charity of their choosing.

As the season of giving approaches, HIKE2 leads with an impactful initiative, notably our Birthday Donation program. This isn’t just about celebrating another trip around the sun; it’s about creating a movement for social good that extends far beyond individual birthdays.

At the heart of this initiative lies a simple yet powerful concept: every HIKE2 employee gets the opportunity to pay it forward on their special day. For each birthday, HIKE2 donates $25 to a charity of the employee’s choice, transforming personal celebrations into impact!

Employees are encouraged to select an organization that resonates with and aligns with their passions and values. The chosen charity is then announced to everyone at HIKE2, which not only amplifies the impact of donations, but also fosters a culture of empathy, diversity, and awareness of a wide range of charities with different causes within HIKE2.

From supporting local charities such as the Pittsburgh Food Bank to aiding Childhood Education International’s global endeavors, and contributing to the cause of mental health awareness through the Asian Mental Health Collective, HIKE2’s impact spans continents and causes.

So far, we have donated $975 to a wide variety of charities. However, it’s not merely about the monetary value – it’s about the stories and connections behind each chosen charity and the act of giving back.

In a world where impact speaks volumes, HIKE2’s Birthday Donation program rings loudly—a testament to our commitment to empowering change, one simple birthday wish at a time.

The team at OSF Digital believes that any student can succeed if given the right resources and opportunities. The OSF Digital Foundation aims to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds receive a high-quality education.

The OSF Scholarship Program identifies stellar students and offers them scholarships to give them a chance at a better future and to reach their full potential. The program features three types of scholarships:

Social scholarships are for students without the financial means to continue their studies. The goal is to prevent school dropouts and provide equal education opportunities for these students.

Study scholarships are for students with learning potential but limited financial possibilities. The objective is to stimulate learning and academic performance.

Excellence scholarships are for students who excel in a specific field. They have already discovered a talent and are following it. This scholarship supports personal development and encourages young people to know themselves and follow their dreams.

These scholarships are granted for the duration of the study years, ranging from 3 to 8 years, depending on when the student enters the program and the type of studies pursued (lower secondary, high school or university education).

OSF launched the Scholarship Program in 2016 through a partnership with a non-governmental organization in Romania.

Pledge 1% volunteering - Ashton Mathai.jpg

“Give what you can — offer your time, your talents, and your expertise.”

That was one of the best pieces of advice I received early in my career.

Notice that money was nowhere to be found in that list. Yet, when we think of giving with impact, that’s what we often think about. Because what’s more effective?

The answer is… a lot.

Don’t get me wrong — I’m not arguing that companies should stop donating money to worthy causes. I’m simply making the case that leaders can create a culture of giving in their organizations that creates impact far beyond monetary value.

For example, over 2023, we estimate that our Contentstack tribe spent over 2,000 hours volunteering for causes they care about.

Did we donate money as well? Yes – but we also found that the most enthusiastic involvement from our tribe happened when they offered their time, talents, and expertise.

Some of those hours took place during “Contentstack Cares Month,” a homegrown initiative where we each take time off to volunteer for a charity of our choice in March.

We established the initiative in 2018 and quickly discovered that when our tribe got hands-on they became personally invested. That led to more involvement outside of what our leadership “appointed” as volunteer days.

CS Cares Slack - Ashton Mathai.png

For Contentstack Cares Month 2023, we saw employees donate their time to pack lunches in areas where 90% or more of students qualified for free and reduced lunch programs. Some volunteered at their local Habitat for Humanity organizations, food banks, healthcare facilities, and more. The amount of passion and participation put forth towards various causes was amazing to witness.

But after March ended, we saw even more of our tribe go out of their way to donate their efforts. Employees volunteered to read with children in inner city areas in April, planted trees with their children in September, and bagged produce with extended family in between.

Impact from giving stems from passion, and we’ve tried to infuse that passion into our culture from day one.

I like to think that takes a lot of the pressure off leaders when considering how to start their own programs. Giving is about more than money — it’s about showing up with willing hearts and hands.

For the last 5 years, Dropbox has created dedicated space and time to ensure employees have the opportunity to #GiveBack to their communities, and foster relationships within Dropbox through our global days of service, Impact Days. Twice a year, these designated days of service span across Dropbox neighborhoods around the world with one goal in mind; do good. Behind this collaborative initiative are Dropbox employees from Dropbox for Good, our employee resource groups (ERGs), and the Dropbox Foundation.

Impact Day includes various giving, learning, and volunteering opportunities. As a Virtual First company, we work closely with “Community Builders” in our neighborhoods and ERG leads to ensure we are reaching employees of diverse locations, backgrounds and interests to gather in person. April’s Impact Day included events that honored heritage months for BlackDropboxers, Women@, Asians@, and Pridebox while our Impact Day in November included opportunities honoring Latinx, Vets@ and enABLE ERGs. Celebrating all of the communities that help make Dropbox such a wonderful place to work is core to Dropbox’s value “Make Work Human.”

Since January 2023, Dropbox employees volunteered more than 3,390 hours and donated over $884K+ to 1000 nonprofit partners. 43% of our volunteer hours were recorded as part of Impact Day, which is a testament to the success of Dropbox for Good leads, a group of employees dedicated to organizing and recruiting volunteers for Impact Day events. Impact Day would not be possible without their immense time, care and coordination.

2023 Impact Day events included the following partners:

Automation Anywhere partnered with the Center for Humanitarian Technology to deploy Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technology with the ‘Telegram for Humanity’ Bot to drastically increase intake speed and accuracy and save hundreds of hours to connect more people with resources.

As a result of the customized bot, more data was captured at the onset, which helped assign IDPs to the correct support center and made repeated interactions easier. Most importantly, the responsive, user-friendly bot enabled Step with Hope volunteers to use more of their valuable time on direct support with families and IDPs and less effort processing and validating requests for aid.

In the first 10 weeks of use, the ‘Telegram for Humanity’ Bot processed more than 17,500 requests from over 14,000 people. The bot successfully handled the variability in assistance requests, managing instances with 4x-5x more tickets in a single day without a decrease in productivity—ultimately saving a total of 400 hours for volunteers to repurpose into essential direct relief.

“There is only one thing worse than Auschwitz itself, and that is if the world forgets there was such a place” Henry Appel, Auschwitz survivor.

When the shadow of COVID-19 fell upon the world, the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum faced an unprecedented challenge – closing its doors for the first time in 75 years. Witnessing this moment, we refused to remain passive bystanders and recognized our responsibility to act.

Understanding the profound significance of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum as a testament to history’s horrors and the voices of Holocaust victims and survivors, we forged an alliance with the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation and the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Our shared mission: to create an innovative solution that would preserve accessibility to the memorial, transcending any physical or geographical boundaries, ensuring that the gates of remembrance would forever remain open.

“The tremendous consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic made it clear that innovative tools must be applied to bridge history with the present and respond to amplified needs of young generations,” said Wojciech Soczewica, Director-General, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation. “That is why the Foundation decided to initiate educational programs to support the Memorial’s global mission. We’re extremely grateful for the unique and true partnership with the team at AppsFlyer. Working jointly in these challenging times proves that our common responsibility for history must always be based on mutual trust and understanding.”

(56) Auschwitz-Birkenau (1) - Brett Pinto.jpeg

This groundbreaking partnership yielded a virtual tour platform that is more than technology – it’s a gateway to a profound experience. This technology isn’t just virtual; it’s a transformative experience. People worldwide can explore the memorial in real-time, guided by on-the-ground professional guides. The tour educates individuals from different backgrounds, languages and ages. From adults to students in class, or families of victims, anywhere in the world, From Australia to the United States. Flexibility is key; visitors customize their experience, preserving the essence of an in-person visit. This achievement extends beyond technology; it’s a vital tool for Holocaust education, safeguarding its memory and reaching millions who couldn’t have visited Auschwitz otherwise.

As the number of living Holocaust survivors diminishes, we’re honored to lead this initiative. By leveraging technology, we ensure Holocaust education resonates globally and with generations to come.

This powerful partnership between technology and history underscores collaboration’s strength. Melding expertise and purpose, we’ve created something impactful, meaningful, and transformative. Our endeavor intertwines history, technology, and compassion, etching the lessons of the past into eternity – a testament never to be forgotten.

In Auschwitz, we can fully confront and address the most important questions about mankind, society, the poison of antisemitism, racial hatred, and contempt towards others. Remembrance gives us strength to act responsibly and repair the world we live in while making it better for our children and their children.

The Intersection and Impact: A Journey of Innovation and history

A collaborative journey: Initiated on Zoom, the two+ years of development of the virtual tour showcased remarkable hybrid teamwork, bringing together diverse skills for a singular purpose.

Financial commitment: AppsFlyer raised and invested over 3M $ in the creation and development of the first virtual live guided tour in Auschwitz Birkenau. The US Congress is supporting the development of the platform with a $ 1M grant.

Multilingual accessibility: Offered in seven languages with live guides, This linguistic inclusivity ensures that the message of remembrance transcends barriers of language and culture.

Diverse feedback: Over 1,000 participants from around the world, including AppsFlyer people, shaped the virtual tour’s design, ensuring its resonance across various backgrounds.

Pioneering technological experience: The first-ever technological venture embraced by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation and memorial teams. It symbolizes a harmonious merger of technology and remembrance, a testament to the capacity of innovation to honor history.

Far-reaching impact: With the potential to reach millions worldwide, this project’s impact is immeasurable. It serves as an enduring medium to educate, commemorate, and uphold the memory of the Holocaust for generations to come.

Historic connectivity: Through the generous contribution of Orange Poland, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial has been digitally interwoven for the first time. This historic endeavor commemorates not just the past, but a future illuminated by knowledge and understanding.

Mobile technology at the forefront: As a leading SaaS company in the mobile ecosystem, we are exceptionally proud to harness the power of mobile phones to serve such a noble purpose. This pioneering utilization underscores the transformative potential of technology in championing humanity’s collective memory.

We are forever grateful for the privilege to initiate and deliver this sacred project and for our part in preserving the survivors’ voices and Holocaust remembrance and education. We are filled with hope that the live tour will also help reduce and lower anti-semitism, racism, indifference, or any gratuitous hatred in the world.

“It happened, and therefore it can happen again” Primo Levi, Auschwitz Survivor
